Super Green Smoothie – Get Yo Vitamins

Here is another smoothie post wooo. As you know, i quite obviously love love smoothies, its such an easy way to get your vitamins and minerals into your body, and make you even healthier! Today’s smoothie is a super green smoothie, its called this because it is really fricken green, and its really super for your body, yay.

I will be talking about the benefits of each ingredient, and why you should be drinking it.

I think with these kind of smoothies you need to know why you should drink it, and what the benefits would be otherwise, if it wasn’t good for you, there is no point in drinking it! – That’s how i feel anyway..

Don’t be put off with how green this smoothie is. I quite like the colour, but i know some of you might think its a bit gross, but it definitely tastes good.

This super green smoothie is packed full of kale, a perfect way to get all your nutrients.

Why The Super Green Smoothie Is So Super

All greens are good for you!

Unless its those apple sweet laces, FYI, there’s no fruit, its all sugar kids.

I mean all green vegetables and fruits, fresh ones. You need to be consuming your fruits and veg in order to stay healthy and fit! Especially now its nearly the summer, we all want to get our summer bodies in tip top condition.

Lets start with the main greens of this super green smoothie…

KALE / SPINACH (You can use either)

Kale has only 33 calories  (one cup) oooo, now i don’t calorie count, but this isn’t bad!

Contains a whole load of protein, bonus for us non meat eaters.

It is full of Vitamins – A,C and K.

Helps with brain development, if you are doing your exams right now, you know what to have!

There are lots of ways to eat kale, you can cook it, you can bake it, you can smoothie it! I am going to try make some kale crisps next.

Spinach – Not only does it give Popeye is huge muscles, it helps us in lots of ways too.

Helps our hair grow, our nails, and helps our skin look flawless.

It can improve our blood glucose levels, lowering blood pressure, and the risk of cancer.

Spinach helps give you stronger bones!

Spinach is high in fiber and has a high water content, meaning it helps with your digestive system, and if you are constipated!

There is of course 100’s of more benefits kale and spinach has on your body, but i dont want to bore you.

COCONUT MILK

I have only just tried coconut milk, and im not quite sure on its taste when you drink it on its own, but mixing it into smoothies or juices makes the overall flavour so fresh and tasty.

Not only is coconut good for you, coconut milk is even better in terms of who can drink it. If you are lactose intolerant, or cannot drink cows milk. Then this is a great alternative.

It apparently can improve your heart health and lower cholesterol.

It can help you build muscle, and lose fat due to containing the nutrients; potassium and magnesium, which helps muscles grow back stronger after a work out.

Contains electrolytes to stop fatigue and dehydration. This is because it contains the minerals your blood needs to keep it healthy.

APPLES

I make sure that i eat an apple every day, green, or red! An apple a day keeps the doctor away.

They contain lots of fiber, this helps with digestion, and can clean your system.

The high mineral content helps increase the oxygen in your blood, and increases your metabolic rate.

Full of anti-oxidants, this means your cells are better at reproduction. This helps your skin look beautiful, and your hair grow faster.

Helps to detoxify your body due to high levels of fiber, and Vitamins; A,B,C. It basically helps to clear your digestive system of toxins, and helps you poop!

CHIA SEEDS

Chis seeds are amazing, they are full of great properties for your body, and are one of the super foods you should be consuming. Try to add chia seeds into pretty much anything.

Full of anti-oxidants. These fight off the free radicals in your body, and helps prevent aging and cancer.

Chia seeds are one of the best sources of fiber in the world.

They are loaded with protein, so if you don’t eat meat, then try add these seeds in your cereal, or yogurt too!

Chia seeds can help your performance when you are exercising.

PEANUT BUTTER

I love peanut butter! Not so much on its own, but things containing peanut butter, mm mmm. You can get either smooth, or crunchy peanut butter, i like either, i just buy which ever one is on offer! (Cheap probs)

It contains healthy fats, don’t be scared of the word ‘fats’ because our body needs some healthy ones for it to work!

Peanut butter is a great energy booster. It provides so many healthy fats and protein, it can really get you started for the day ahead.

Contains fiber, as we know by now this basically means it helps us go to the toilet..

How To Make – Super Green Smoothie

There is lots of ingredients written down, but you don’t need to add them all just mix and match.

The key ingredients for this super green smoothie are in Green! (I added other things to make it sweeter)

If you like the taste of the earth then go ahead with the smoothie.

I ended up trying the smoothie, then adding in some more sweeter things to make it taste how i liked it.

  • Coconut milk
  • Kale/Spinach
  • Banana
  • Apple
  • Chia seeds
  • Desiccated coconut
  • Peanut butter
  • Honey
  • Flaxsseed
  • Linseed
  • Blueberries

First of all, to make the super green smoothie, you need to make sure you have your equipment ready, I use the Breville Blend-Active Personal Blender because its so easy, its cheap, and you can take it right off the blender, and go!

Prepare your food – chop up the fruit you want to use, wash the kale if it is unwashed, otherwise it can be a little gritty.

Measuring, I never measure, but you might want to. I have estimated what i think i put in the bottle, but you can change this to your taste, you might want more peanut butter, or less honey.

Then put it all in the bottle, i squashed in the kale because i used quite a lot. I always add the liquid last, i don’t know if you should, but i do.

Blend away! I blend this smoothie for quite a while because the apple takes a little longer to be really smooth, you dont want huge chunks here and there (or you might, its up to you).

Then Enjoy! You can either drink it from the bottle and just wash the blades straight away, or pour it into a glass and make it look fancy. I however kept it in the bottle and took it to work with me.

Here is the end product of the super green smoothie. Its super green! And super yummy.
